For more advanced CNC machining, Fusion 360 subscribers can upgrade to include the Fusion 360 Machining Extension. Fusion 360 provides all the essential tools you need for 2D, 3+2, CAM, and 3D printing, as well as cloud collaboration tools. The only thing that old means is you will have a slow connection, your USB adapter or communication software won't care. Fusion 360 is the starting point to build your Fusion platform. Even better, it is free to download and use for educational and hobby purposes. Typically you have three options on the wiring, lot's of fun! Add to that all the options in your communication software and you really start to go crazy. The software we are highlighting today is Autodesk Fusion 360 for use with your CNC, a free Integrated CAD and CAM package, which conveniently lets you design your project and generate the gcode all in one place. Additionally, Im proficient in Altium Designer and Proteus Design Suite for PCB design. I specialize in using software such as Creo, Solidworks, and Fusion360 to create accurate and precise 3D models and technical drawings. Also you have to make sure your control is set correctly for how you have your cable wired. Im a professional engineer with years of experience in CAD, CAM (for 3D printing & CNC machining), and PCB design. Getting your computer to communicate with your cnc control involves getting the standard settings correct, including for the cable you are using, such as how many wires you have hooked up. They are only $5-$10 for a single port card. Even though motherboards no longer have serial ports they still have a header to plug one into. Best option, for a desktop, is a serial port card. Capable of creating 2D and 3D CNC designs, Fusion 360 also has a g-code editor and CNC simulator based on your chosen toolpaths. Just make sure you download the right driver. Fusion 360 All-purpose CNC CAM Software Free for students and free trial, then 495/year With a huge market share and a favorite of many makers, Fusion 360 is a great all-in-one CAD/CAM software for CNC. I have a FTDI USB adapter and it works fine. AGG's program is much more involved and does't like something about my cabling to one of my mills, it loads real slow to the control. I also find it much easier to set up with a new machine. HyperTerminal is just so much easier to use for simple file transferes than any other free program I have tried. I have both HyperTerminal and AGG,s free dnc software installed and working on my computer.
